Golfer

At the beginning of the summer, I was commissioned to paint this scene for a returning customer . It's rare to find such a wonderful supporter of the arts. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to paint this scene.  This is an oil painting on a 24"x30" canvas.   Originally, the crowd didn't have any facial features, but my customer felt it needed the detail to complete it. The finished product certainly shows this to be true.   Here is a shot of the painting farther away to give some perspective.

She speaks with wisdom

Image
A sweet family from church had a little girl and to celebrate I painted Scripture for the nursery. The gift of art to new or growing families is the highlight of what I do. The Couple requested Psalm 31:26 (Their first daughter's artwork centered on Psalm 31:25. To see more about this painting you can go to http://kati-yates-art.blogspot.com/2015/04/proverbs-3125-baby-shower-present.html . ): The hope of a kind and encouraging daughter truly influenced this piece at all levels.  The girls may share a room in the future, so I wanted to paint something  unique and special for daughter two, but something that would also compliment her older sister's painting. The text/background interplay with light and dark was fantastic! Considering the gift of art, for your own wee ones or a growing family you love? World Traveler

My sister has lived in amazing places in her life. To commemorate such adventures, she commissioned the following map. She'll put picture frames showing all the places they have lived around the canvas. The continents spoke to the limitlessness of where they could go as a family, and the colors mimicked the vastly different cultures and situations in which they had survived and thrived. This one was especially fun because I have tracked all their adventures as they've moved, and I thoroughly  enjoyed creating a focal point for their realization and remembrances of these times.  Here are two different shots with different lighting. This canvas is 30"x24" on stretched canvas, painted in oils.  This was such a fun painting to do with all the bright colors. If you would like art that represents your own adventures message me for details.

Barn Quilt Square

Image
I was commissioned to paint this Barn Quilt Square to be displayed on the side of a house next to a pool.   A piece of wood that was 3 feet by 3 feet and the colors were to match her house and the Terra Cotta tiles was requested. The last color could be one I chose to compliment the other two.  I have not done something like this before, but was excited to give it a try. I typically work in oils so I started this in oils and got some clear varnish to seal this from the elements as it would be displayed outside.  My husband did some research after I had completed the painting and we found out I shouldn't varnish it for six or so months. Due to extreme Florida heat and the paints not fully being set it could create a bad combination and ruin the painting.    Since I was pretty sure six months was too long to wait to have this finished I decided to start over. Back to the hardware store for more plywood and I painted the board with ...

Five little paintings for a special baby boy

Image
A sweet friend is having a baby boy and one of my favorite things to do for close friends is to paint them something for their nursery. She gave me five images to work from and I gave her one painting as a gift and she commissioned me to do the other four paintings. These paintings are each 8" x 8" and painted in oils on canvas. This is the painting I chose to give my friend for her gift. I really enjoyed the way all the colors came out in this one.   This painting proved to be a bit challenging at first because there was so much going on and I had to simplify it and still show depth.     Close ups of this painting. Tree painting was fun to do and I enjoyed all the movement in the tree trunks. This blue painting is my favorite one I think. It was in some ways the hardest to do and get all the different tones of blue. My favorite part in this painting are all the little birds. Close up of the blue painting....

And though she be but little she is fierce.

I made these for a first time mom to be who I wasn't sure what she wanted. I had asked this sweet couple what they would like for their baby girl and they really were not sure what direction to take with their nursery. At the suggestion of one of my very smart friends I checked out her Pinterest board for her new baby. I saw this quote and this arrow like design throughout her board and decided this is what I was going to do for them. The challenge was that I had less than a week to get it done because her baby shower was the following week! These paintings were very different from most of the paintings I have done. In the end I enjoyed completing them. I found it very relaxing to do the shapes and colors. It was almost an adult coloring book, so popular currently .   Thankfully I got the words right on my first try.  I love how all three paintings look together.  Here is a close up of one of the paintings.  Here are the painti...
