Artwork for Super Hero Day at Chickfila!

I was hired by a local Chick-fil-a in town to paint their windows for their Super Hero Day event next Saturday. It is a great event celebrating the local police, EMT, Fire Department and military. People can dress up like Super Hero's and meet some Super Hero's and eat chicken!
Last Year I was hired by Chick-fil-a to paint the windows and large superhero banner's.  (Click Link to see post from last year http://kati-yates-art.blogspot.com/2012/09/chick-fil-superhero-day.html) This year they were able to reuse the banners and I painted the windows again with military emblems and public service emblems.

 In total it took about 12 hours to do everything.  I drew on poster board the emblems ahead of time to hopefully save time at the store and prevent spacing issues. I taped the poster board on the other side of the glass and then I outlined all the lines in black and began filling in with colors. I removed the poster board and painted white on the other side of the glass to provide a good base and keep the white from getting mixed up with other colors.

 If I had a little more time and height (I was feeling really short and pregnant while trying to reach the top paintings on the windows) I would have added a little more to some of them. Thankfully I had some wonderful help keeping me safe when I used the large ladder to reach some of the really tall places.

BEFORE: This woman wasn't pleased being so small against the pitcher.  Having your work critiqued can be quite difficult at times. I had the opportunity to work with a writer who gives the best constructive feedback I have had in a really long time. She didn't nit pick, but rather gave helpful advice and things I could change in the paintings. AFTER: Painted over with her face instead of showing her entire self. Having to complete these paintings so quickly having her help was essential in getting the works done. I was  asked by the Thomasville Center for the Arts to complete this project. Before I left to go to Taiwan they asked to see my progress on the paintings. Unfortunately they weren't able to see them in person, but I was able to send them photos of the paintings. Paintings for two of my friends new babies

I recently finished these paintings for two of my friends who are expecting babies soon. My friends told me the colors of the babies rooms and bedding, what they liked and didn't like and this is what I came up with.  They are both painted with oil paint on canvas. My friend wanted a painting that her kids could grow with and not be something that is only good for a couple years while they are babies.  Since her kids may share a room she didn't want the new babies name on it. My other friend gave me a verse she would like on the painting. Her babies room doesn't have a specific theme, but this elephant and basketball incorporated a fun animal her kids will like and her husband loves basketball. Baby girl painting

My friend and I threw an Anne of Green Gables themed baby shower for a sweet friend of ours and I painted this for her girls room.  This painting is of a scene from the Anne of Green Gables movie.   This painting is a lot different then my usual subject matter, but I enjoyed painting it and most of all I am glad that it worked well for the room. One thing this painting brought to my attention is I need to continue to practice painting landscapes so I can get better at them.   Here is a picture of the painting in the room, I love how it looks with the color of the wall and the lighting is better in this picture.
